ABOUT US

Needless Allies is a Birmingham-based theatre collective specialising in site-specific theatre. We have been creating work together since 2010. Needless Allies was founded by Kerrie Reading and is now led by Melissa Hurlbutt-Hemming and Charlotte Gregory.
We work in new and innovative ways that challenge and open minds to the possibilities of creating work in unusual spaces. We strive to create work that is participatory and inclusive and our approach is always inventive and interactive with the audience at the heart of the action. We are interested in visuals, character, story and place and these elements are always integral to our devising process. Our performances have taken place in theatres, forests, buses, escalators and even a tent!
We have created work for Worcestershire County Council, Wyre Forest District Council, Project Dandelion ‘Building Schools for the Future’, Town Hall Symphony Hall, Fierce Festival, mac, Stirchley Happenings and Birmingham City Council. We have a proven track record for providing a strong, professional working relationship with our partners and have built an eclectic body of work.

“The three performers were excellent and made the performance engaging for both children and adults. We’ll be looking out for this company.”
